Safety Upgrades

As part of extensive and ongoing restoration works to this beautiful theatre, which opened on Christmas Eve 1904, Classic Contractors removed and replaced asbestos roofing with Colorbond sheeting, upgraded the fire safety system, installed new mechanical air extraction units, and new acoustic fire doors to internal and external walls.

‘The Maj’ is Australia’s only remaining Edwardian Baroque theatre and one of only two theatres in the world still called His Majesty’s so it’s a very special building that could only be refurbished by skilled professionals.
