The National Hotel, Fremantle
Craftsmanship and expertise on a heritage building refurbishment.
This $6.3m heritage-listed project took considerable craftsmanship and expertise to complete to the client’s standards. Great care was needed to skilfully preserve the building’s character while applying the best modern techniques to produce a refurbishment that is as long-lasting as it is a delight to the eye.
We successfully met all the strict codes and guidelines required, created the significant structural work to fulfill the brief, and completed both stages on time, on budget in a very tight site with a minimal laydown area and with minimal variations to the client.
Completing this project required us to work closely with the Heritage Council of Western Australia, The City of Fremantle, and all the utility providers – a requirement that we’re well used to and are particularly proud of our many successful relationships with similar stakeholders.
Stage One
Ground and first floor refurbishment of the bar, restaurant and alfresco dining area.
Working on a site so damaged by fire brought unique challenges. The client, The Carnegie Group, wanted to preserve as much of the original jarrah staircase, archways, fireplace, architraves and mouldings so our team’s depth of knowledge and skills in refurbishing heritage buildings were heavily relied on.
The construction required significant structural work and the fit out spanned 1400m2 of floor area over six levels.
Stage Two
Refurbishment, construction and fit out of the rooftop bar and hotel rooms.
Classic Contractors were once again appointed to work on this 6-level project that included construction of a rooftop bar with 360-degree views towards Fremantle Harbour, and construction and fit out of 12 bespoke, architecturally designed hotel rooms and ensuite bathrooms.
Our high standard of finish gained us outstanding reviews from hotel guests and rooftop patrons as well as one very happy developer. You can see our work for yourself the next time you’re enjoying this iconic local hotel development.
